Information from the abstract

In an amine-based CO 2 capture system, integrating an advanced amine blend and a solid acid catalyst has emerged as a promising strategy to improve overall CO 2 desorption performance. This work demonstrated a novel technique using a combined advanced amine blend, specifically 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)pyrrolidine (PRLD) and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), with a nano-HZSM-5 zeolite. The nano-HZSM-5 was synthesized under different conditions including crystallization temperature (110–150 °C), crystallization time (1–3 days), and aging time (16–48 h), and used to optimize the structural and acidic properties of the catalyst. Characterization results indicated that the nano-zeolite prepared using crystallization time of 3 days, aging time of 48 h, and a temperature of 150 °C demonstrated nano-sized particles ranging from 70 to 90 nm and possessed a high surface area and strong acidity, which were responsible for the remarkable improvement of the catalytic performance in CO 2 desorption at 90 °C. The CO 2 desorption rate increased by 363% and 69% compared to the non-catalyst system and conventional HZSM-5, respectively. A cyclic capacity of 1.29 mol CO 2 /L·solution was achieved for the nano-HZSM-5, while heat duty was 36.87 kJ/mol CO 2 , which represented a reduction by 78% compared to the conventional HZSM-5.
