Background The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus during pregnancy is rising, including in Thailand. Poor glycaemic control during pregnancy can negatively impact both mothers and their babies. This study aims to understand the experiences and perspectives of both nurse-midwives and pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods Data were analysed thematically using NVivo software. Results The concerns of pregnant women with GDM were grouped into four main themes: 1) Stress and anxiety about their health and their baby's well-being, 2) Challenges with self-discipline in managing their diet, 3) Support through shared experiences and peer connections, and 4) Physical activity and lifestyle adaptation. On the other hand, concerns amongst nurse-midwives fell into four main themes: 1) Managing the fear and anxiety associated with GDM, 2) Recognising the difficulties women face in adhering to dietary recommendations, 3) Lack of continuity of care, affecting the ability to provide consistent support to each woman, and 4) Having difficulty encouraging physical activity amongst pregnant women. Conclusion Continuity of midwifery care is essential for addressing the unique needs of women with GDM, ensuring comprehensive monitoring, and enhancing positive pregnancy experiences.
