While coaching is widely acknowledged as vital for positive youth development, empirical evidence remains limited regarding how multidimensional coaching behaviors uniquely predict distinct life skill domains among university student-athletes. This study examined the relationship between coaching behaviors and life skills development among university athletes and identified which coaching behaviors predict specific life skills outcomes. Using a predictive correlational research design, data were collected from 152 university varsity athletes in the Philippines using the Coaching Behavior Scale for Sport (CBS-S) and the Life Skills Scale for Sport (LSSS). Spearman's rank-order correlation and multiple regression analyses were employed to analyze the data. Results revealed that all positive coaching behaviors; physical training and planning, technical skills instruction, mental preparation, goal setting, competition strategies, and personal rapport, were positively correlated with every life skill dimension and overall life skills development. In contrast, negative personal rapport was negatively associated with emotional skills, time management, and overall life skills. Multiple regression analyses showed that physical training and planning positively predicted social skills and leadership, coaching-related goal setting positively predicted athletes’ goal setting and time-management skills, and competition strategies positively predicted leadership. Conversely, negative personal rapport negatively predicted emotional skills, time management, and overall life skills development. The findings highlight the important role of coaches in facilitating athletes' life skills development. University sport programs should promote supportive, developmentally focused coaching practices while minimizing negative coach-athlete interactions to maximize positive developmental outcomes beyond sport participation.
