Information from the abstract
Background: Electronic cigarettes have rapidly become a significant public health concern worldwide. In Thailand, village health volunteers play an important role in community-based health promotion and primary care. Their involvement is essential for preventing e-cigarette use at the community level, making them a key frontline force in addressing this growing issue. This study aimed to evaluate knowledge, attitudes, and electronic cigarette smoking prevention behaviors and to identify factors associated with these outcomes. Methodology: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 374 village health volunteers in Surin Province, northeastern Thailand. Data were collected between February and March 2026 using a structured questionnaire assessing demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and e-cigarette smoking prevention behaviors. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: Most participants were female (89.3%), middle-aged (mean age 51.97 years), and farmers by occupation (85.0%), with the majority having a secondary education or less. Knowledge, attitude, and preventive behavior were high. Knowledge and attitude were associated with e-cigarette smoking preventive behavior, together explaining 17.0% of the variance in the regression analysis. Conclusion: Knowledge and attitudes were associated with e-cigarette smoking prevention behaviors among village health volunteers and may be relevant considerations for future health promotion efforts; however, causal inference cannot be drawn from this cross-sectional design.
