Information from the abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of steel fiber content and exposure duration under high chloride conditions on the compressive strength, flexural performance, and chloride penetration of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC).Steel fiber contents of 30, 60 and 90 kg/m³ were investigated, and the specimens were immersed in a 10 wt% NaCl solution for 100 and 200 days. The experimental results showed that increasing the steel fiber content significantly improved both compressive strength and flexural performance. The compressive strength increased by approximately 15-20%, while the residual flexural strength and energy absorption capacity also increased, indicating improved postcracking behavior. After prolonged exposure to the chloride solution, a slight increase in compressive strength was observed in all groups, which may be attributed to continued hydration and long-term curing effects rather than the direct influence of chloride. In contrast, flexural performance, particularly residual flexural strength, tended to decrease in specimens with medium to high fiber contents after exposure, which was associated with corrosion of steel fibers near the concrete surface.Chloride penetration testing revealed that chloride ions penetrated only to a shallow depth of approximately 3-6 mm.The findings suggest that an appropriate steel fiber dosage can enhance both the mechanical performance and durability of concrete. However, under high chloride conditions, excessive fiber content may adversely affect long-term flexural performance. Therefore, the design of SFRC should consider both steel fiber dosage and corrosion protection measures.
