Collective Open Research Infrastructure: Building DataCite Consortia in Thailand and Ethiopia

IMPACT SIGNAL71/100
01

Information from the abstract

This DataCite Member Story features two national DataCite consortia: one in Thailand, led by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), and one in Ethiopia, led by Mekelle University. NRCT, a DataCite member since 2012, became Consortium Lead in 2025 and supports six organizations in connecting their repositories and publishing platforms to DataCite. Mekelle University's work through DataCite's Global Access Fund led to the establishment of the Ethiopian DataCite Consortium in 2025, which now brings together six member institutions. The post describes how consortia reduce financial and technical barriers, enable local training and knowledge exchange, and give members direct control over DOI registration and metadata, offering a sustainable, cost-effective pathway to shared persistent identifier infrastructure.
