Intrinsic Seebeck Feedback for Thermoelectric Temperature Regulation Using a Peltier Module

IMPACT SIGNAL72/100
01

Information from the abstract

This work presents a model-assisted intrinsic Seebeck feedback framework for thermoelectric temperature regulation using a shared Peltier-based electrothermal structure. The proposed framework enables the thermoelectric module to function as both a thermal actuator and an intrinsic thermal sensor through time-multiplexed operation between thermoelectric actuation and Seebeck sensing. To estimate transient thermal behavior during thermoelectric operation, a reduced-order electrothermal model together with a Simscape-based digital twin is developed. Experimental characterization under varying pulse-width modulation (PWM) duty-cycle conditions demonstrates measurable intrinsic Seebeck responses corresponding to the thermal gradient across the thermoelectric structure. Based on the characterized electrothermal dynamics, a model-assisted thermoelectric regulation scheme is formulated for closed-loop temperature regulation. The framework integrates digital-twin-based thermal prediction with intermittent intrinsic Seebeck-based feedback correction. Experimental validation confirms stable thermal convergence toward the desired reference temperature and a shorter rise time than continuous thermistor-feedback P control under the same thermal and electrical operating conditions, while compensating for practical thermal disturbances, thermal accumulation, and model mismatch during prolonged operation. The results establish intrinsic Seebeck feedback as a viable foundation for self-observable thermoelectric systems capable of integrated actuation, intermittent intrinsic sensing, and temperature regulation.
