Information from the abstract

This research aims to develop a web-based application informed by health literacy, social support, and self-care behaviors concepts and to conduct a preliminary evaluation of the prototype. A developmental and descriptive evaluation design was used. The study included five information technology experts and 30 older adults with hypertension. The study protocol was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Chachoengsao Provincial Public Health Office, Thailand (approval number: PH_CCO_REC 007/2569), and written informed consent was obtained from all participants. The prototype was developed by using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL. Experts evaluated the prototype using a 20-item form developed based on six domains: usability, accessibility, design, content, mobile responsiveness and performance. Satisfaction was rated by older adults after 1 week of application use using a 20-item survey organized into six domains. Overall expert evaluation and overall satisfaction scores were calculated, and satisfaction scores were also calculated for each domain. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics including the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The prototype received a very high overall expert evaluation score (mean = 4.57, SD = 0.62), and older adults reported very high satisfaction after one week of use (mean = 4.67, SD = 0.44). These findings indicate preliminary user acceptance of the prototype among the participating experts and older adults. Its effects on blood-pressure control, self-care behavior, health literacy, and other clinical outcomes require evaluation in future controlled studies. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT HIGHLIGHTS A web-based application prototype was developed to support self-care among older adults with hypertension. The prototype was designed with reference to health literacy, social support, and self-care behavior concepts. Participating experts rated the prototype very highly, and older adults reported very high satisfaction after one week of use.
