Restoring Culturally Essential Floor-Sitting in Transfemoral Prosthesis Users: A Six-Week Pilot Randomized Within-Subject Trial

A pilot randomised within-subject trial in 14 unilateral transfemoral prosthesis users compared a low-profile, femoral-adducted Asian Transfemoral Socket with each participant's usual socket after six weeks of ATS use. Twelve participants attained cross-legged sitting and six additional participants attained side-sitting with ATS, alongside comfort and quality-of-life signals. Six-minute walking distance, four-square-step balance and daily steps did not differ significantly; the small sample could not exclude clinically important harm.

Effects of a Home-Based Fall Prevention Program in Older Lower Limb Prosthesis Users: A Randomized Controlled Trial

A randomised controlled trial assigned 44 older lower-limb prosthesis users to usual care or education plus 16 home exercises three times weekly for eight weeks; 41 completed follow-up. Change in Timed Up and Go did not differ between groups, nor did static balance or balance confidence. No falls were reported during the study, but the sample and follow-up were too small to establish fall prevention or definitive lack of benefit. The null finding applies to this relatively high-mobility study population.

Thalassaemia prevention in Asia: progress, challenges, and future directions

This Series paper reviews thalassaemia prevention across 14 Asian countries with high carrier frequencies, heterogeneous mutations, and unequal health-system capacity. Singapore, Malaysia, the Maldives, and Thailand had the most structured approaches, combining public awareness, carrier screening, genetic counselling, and prenatal diagnosis. Measurable success was clearest in Singapore and to a more limited extent Thailand. Many countries still face fragmented services, weak national coordination, workforce shortages, insufficient epidemiological data, and financial, technological, cultural, and social barriers. This is a regional health-system synthesis, not a comparative policy trial.

Hepatitis B Vaccination Intention and Influencing Factors among College Students in Huanggang, Hubei, China: A Protection Motivation Theory-Based Cross-Sectional Study

This Protection Motivation Theory cross-sectional study surveyed 1,130 students aged 18–26 at three universities in Huanggang, Hubei, China, during April–May 2025. The authors dichotomized a 1–10 intention item into low scores of 1–6 and high scores of 7–10; 58.9% were in the high-intention group. In adjusted analysis, hepatitis B knowledge, vaccine knowledge, preventive behaviour, perceived severity, self-efficacy, and response efficacy were associated with higher odds of high intention, while perceived response cost was associated with lower odds. The findings identify intervention targets but do not show that changing them raises actual vaccination uptake.

The Epidemiology of Thalassaemia Syndromes in Southeast Asia

This Series paper synthesizes thalassaemia epidemiology across 10 countries in WHO's South-East Asia Region by combining local expertise with a rapid literature review. Alpha- and beta-globin disorders and haemoglobin E are frequent and produce phenotypes ranging from asymptomatic carriage to lifelong transfusion dependence. Although a small set of mutations often dominates within each country, the regional spectrum is complex and population data remain incomplete. The paper highlights blood shortages, consanguinity in some settings, gender inequities, migration, and low awareness, and recommends national registries, premarital or prenatal screening, coordinated blood systems, and culturally sensitive education.

Crude-Glycerin Leucaena Pellets Improve Goat Feed Efficiency, but Methane Reduction Is Modeled

Thai researchers tested Leucaena leucocephala pellets containing 0–15% crude glycerin in 32 male Boer × Thai native goats for 90 days. Intake fell slightly, but gain-to-feed ratio, fermentation indicators, and modeled economics improved. Methane and greenhouse-gas reductions were estimated from a stoichiometric model rather than direct emissions measurements.

Techno-Economic Assessment of EV Charging Infrastructure in Residential Buildings in Nonthaburi, Thailand

This Nonthaburi residential-building case study compared two 60-kW DC chargers, one 60-kW DC plus two 22-kW AC chargers, and four 22-kW AC chargers. Assumptions included a seven-year project, 5.5% discount rate, mean selling price of THB7.25/kWh, service time of 4, 6, or 8 hours per day, and electricity costs of THB4.50, 4.73, or 4.95/kWh, giving 27 scenarios. All three portfolios were financially feasible under the specified conditions. Two DC chargers gave the strongest return at eight hours per day and THB4.50/kWh, while four AC chargers better fit long parking durations and lower capital and maintenance costs.

Visual Impairment Was Associated With Nearly Threefold Higher Odds of Frailty Progression in Thai Older Adults

This retrospective cohort from the Siriraj Primary Care Unit followed 400 community-dwelling older adults, with a median age of 70 years and 76% women. Visual impairment was defined as visual acuity worse than 6/12 in the better-seeing eye, and frailty was assessed with the Thai FRAIL scale. Ordinal logistic regression found an association with transition to a worse frailty state: adjusted odds ratio 2.98 (95% CI 1.97–4.52; p

NECTIN2 Depletion Cut Migration and Invasion by About Half, but Only in One Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cell Line

This study asked whether the cell-surface adhesion molecule NECTIN2 contributes to motility and invasion in triple-negative breast cancer. The team combined public-dataset analyses with stable NECTIN2 depletion in MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468 cells. The major phenotype was confined to MDA-MB-231: migration and invasion fell by about 50%, accompanied by lower LIMK1 and cytoskeletal changes, while LIMK1 re-expression partially restored migration. The findings support a context-dependent mechanism, not a clinically validated drug target or proof that NECTIN2 inhibition prevents metastasis in patients.

Stepped-Wedge Cluster Randomized Trial

A Smartphone Antimicrobial Prescribing App Did Not Outperform Paper Guidelines Across Six Lao Hospitals

Across a stepped-wedge cluster randomized trial in six Lao hospitals, a smartphone version of national antimicrobial prescribing guidelines plus one stewardship training session did not significantly improve adherence over paper versions after adjustment for time, clustering, and confounders. Inpatient adherence was 25.6% versus 17.0% before adjustment, but the adjusted odds ratio was 1.26 (95% CI 0.8–1.9; p=0.276); outpatient results were also null. The finding argues for sustained, multifaceted stewardship rather than guideline access alone.

Two-Stage Model Classifies 46 Produce and Vegetable-Dish Categories at 92.43% Top-1 Accuracy, but Lacks On-Device Validation

The study developed a two-stage ThaiSook pipeline: a binary model first rejects non-produce images, after which a multiclass model identifies 43 fruit and vegetable types and three vegetable-heavy dishes. The 40,595-image dataset contained 11,210 labelled and 29,385 unlabelled user images. With label smoothing and temperature scaling, the pipeline reached 92.43% top-1, 94.56% top-3, and 94.91% top-5 accuracy; Noisy Student raised top-1 accuracy to 92.59%. However, results rely on one train–test split, without real on-device testing or evidence that classification improves dietary measurement or health outcomes.

Lower-Income Asia-Pacific Settings Reported Full Out-of-Pocket Cost for 95.2% of High-Benefit Medicine–Country Pairs

This predefined regional analysis of ESMO's 2023 global survey covered 20 Asia-Pacific countries and compared WHO essential cancer medicines with high-benefit medicines under ESMO-MCBS. The findings show that marketing availability does not equal reliable access: reimbursement and patient out-of-pocket burden remain major bottlenecks. Access was generally stronger in high-income economies, while middle- and lower-income groups faced large gaps, particularly for high-benefit medicines. The evidence is expert-reported and cross-sectional, and income-group aggregates must not be presented as Thailand-specific estimates.
