Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatohepatitis and the Progression of Cognitive Decline in Older Thai People With HIV

This prospective HIV-NAT cohort in Bangkok followed 291 people with HIV aged at least 50 years from 2015–2024; 60 participants, or 20.6%, met non-invasive criteria for MASH at baseline. Over a median 5.9 years, baseline MASH was associated with steeper decline in Thai-validated MoCA scores after adjustment for multiple metabolic, social, and HIV-related factors, whereas MASLD without the MASH signal was not associated with decline. The findings support integrated liver and cognitive surveillance but do not show that treating MASH prevents cognitive deterioration.

Exploratory cross-sectional evidence

Early neuromuscular and cognitive signatures in high-performance young male Muay Thai athletes

Researchers assessed 215 high-performance male Muay Thai athletes aged 8–18 over five days and compared four age groups. Anthropometry, biological maturation, maximal strength, and several cognitive measures improved with age, while limb asymmetry, fatigue indices, Nordic hamstring performance, lower-limb dynamic strength index, and upper-limb push-up force did not differ by age. PCA suggested age-specific multidimensional profiles, but cross-sectional data do not prove an effect of age or training and do not constitute a validated talent-selection model.

Measuring what matters: Evaluating quality of life instruments through the eyes of people with Parkinson's disease

Researchers asked 31 people living with Parkinson's disease to complete eight quality-of-life instruments and then used semi-structured interviews to explore what helped or hindered meaningful reporting. Participants favored broad response options, attention to personal, emotional, and practical effects, clear and specific language, and a balance of positive and negative questions. The study centers lived experience in instrument refinement but does not establish which questionnaire has the best validity, reliability, or responsiveness.

Balancing continuity and relevance: Innovation-nostalgia configurations in time-honored brand revitalization

Revitalizing a time-honored brand requires continuity of identity alongside present-day relevance. The study analyzed 404 firm-side respondents from 76 enterprises and 536 consumers in Southwestern China using PLS-SEM and fsQCA. Innovation and nostalgia interacted positively only in the firm model; both were positively associated on the consumer side, where nostalgia was stronger. Set-theoretic analysis identified overlapping configurations and three balancing logics, framing revitalization as a multi-actor process rather than a universal formula.

Revisit Intention Under Climate Risk in Island Tourism: Structural and Configurational Evidence from PLS-SEM and fsQCA

The study examines how perceived island-climate risk, destination climate resilience, tourism climate-service usefulness, and destination trust combine in relation to intention to revisit Phuket. An on-site survey of 480 Chinese tourists was analyzed using both PLS-SEM and fsQCA. The structural model explained 74.6% of variance in revisit intention: perceived climate risk was negatively associated, the other three constructs were positively associated, and trust had the strongest direct association. The configurational analysis identified multiple routes to high and low intention. All results concern cross-sectional self-reported intention, not proof that an intervention causes actual return travel.

Moving towards decolonizing health professions education research: an analysis of global network patterns and equity implications

An all-Thai team analyzed co-authorship structures in five leading Q1 health-professions-education journals from 2015 through 2024, covering 13,187 publications, 45,366 authors, and affiliations in 162 countries. Annual output grew 2.7-fold and distinct authors 3.7-fold. High-income-country-only publications fell from 86% to 63%, while non-high-income-only publications rose from 6% to 26%. The network became broader and more connected, yet the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada remained central, and low-income-country collaboration was more often routed through high-income partners than through regionally led networks.

An Integrated Intelligent Decision Support System Combining Stochastic Programming and Queuing Theory for Dynamic Triage of Surgical Critical Care Patients to Prevent Postoperative Complications in Healthcare Business Operation

The authors developed SQDSS, combining two-stage stochastic programming with multi-class priority queueing to triage surgical critical-care patients under uncertain arrivals, changing acuity, and deterioration while waiting. Across 48 synthetic datasets, comparisons with first-come-first-served and a fixed-severity rule showed about 22.8% shorter high-acuity waits, 16% greater bed utilization, roughly 28% less queue overflow, and roughly 18% fewer simulated complications. Benefits were greatest under surge and trauma-dominant conditions. No real-patient data or implementation trial were used, so these results demonstrate modeled feasibility rather than clinical effectiveness.

Psychometric Properties of the Revised Thai Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (r-TRSES) in Adolescents: Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Rasch Modeling

The study evaluates a culturally reworded Thai Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale in 443 boarding-school students. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a bifactor structure with a dominant general self-esteem factor and residual wording-related variance. Rasch analysis supported essential unidimensionality, acceptable item fit, strong reliability, and ordered response thresholds. No item exceeded the prespecified threshold for sex differential item functioning. Scores correlated positively with resilience (r=0.589) and negatively with depressive symptoms (r=-0.601), but precision declined among adolescents with higher self-esteem and broader replication remains necessary.

Strengthening Sustainable Clinical Trial Models for Greater Health Impact: Expert Discussion from the Annual Wellcome Major International Programme Regional Meeting 2024

This open letter synthesizes the 2024 Wellcome Major International Programmes meeting, which brought together research-institution representatives from Africa, Asia, and the United Kingdom. Participants identified limited clinical-trial literacy, unstable funding, workforce recruitment and retention, inequitable partnerships, ethics and regulatory bottlenecks, operational inefficiencies, and barriers in remote settings. Proposed responses included locally led agendas, diversified funding, workforce development, stronger community and regulator engagement, platform, adaptive and decentralized trials, shared monitoring, and interoperable data systems. The meeting agreed to explore a formal MIPs alliance, but the paper does not show that the alliance has yet delivered operational or health outcomes.

Extending UTAUT with Metacognition and Self-Regulation: Evidence on Generative AI Use among University Students

A survey of 451 students at seven Thai Rajabhat universities extended UTAUT by positioning metacognitive awareness and self-regulated learning between technology-acceptance determinants and GenAI-use intention, with intention predicting self-reported use of GenAI as a cognitive partner. Facilitating conditions had the strongest associations with metacognition and self-regulation but no significant direct association with intention; the significant indirect path ran through metacognition. Social influence was the strongest direct predictor of intention, followed by metacognition, while effort expectancy and self-regulated learning did not predict intention in this model.

Nearly Two-Thirds of Frail Older Adults Had an Unplanned Hospital Return Within Six Months

An interim prospective secondary analysis from a parent trial at one university hospital followed 170 frail older adults after medical-ward discharge. A broad composite of emergency visits, unplanned outpatient visits, and readmissions rose from 34.7% at one month to 64.7% at six months. Better nutritional status was associated with lower return odds, and returners had higher direct medical costs. The observational analysis does not show that nutritional intervention prevents return.

PrEP Use and Willingness Cascades Among Transgender Women in 11 Asian Countries: Findings From the PrEP APPEAL Cross-Sectional Online Survey

The 2022 PrEP APPEAL online survey included 1,178 transgender women in 11 Asian countries. Awareness was 80.0%; among those aware, 62.6% had ever used PrEP, and 78.1% of ever-users were current users. Among higher-risk PrEP-naïve respondents, 60.0% were willing to use it, but only 34.0% of those willing would pay. Healthcare discrimination was associated with lower lifetime use; causality cannot be inferred.

Building sustainable workplaces: The role of organizational climate and recognition on employee task performance in Vietnamese SMEsThis research aims to study the relationships between Organizational Climate and Task Performance through Organizational Recognition in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Da Nang, Vietnam. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used to examine the direct and indirect (mediated) relationships among the independent variables, the mediator, and the dependent variable. The population of this study is individual employees in SMEs; 402 respondents were obtained through a convenience and volunteer sampling method. The empirical results demonstrated an excellent model fit. The path analysis revealed that all four dimensions of Organizational Climate had significant positive direct effects on Organizational Recognition (p < 0.001), and that Organizational Recognition was significantly associated with Task Performance. Bootstrap analysis with 5000 resamples and bias-corrected 95 % confidence intervals indicated that all four indirect effects through Organizational Recognition were statistically significant. Standard of Work was fully mediated by Organizational Recognition, whereas Organizational Structure, Responsibility, and Commitment were partially mediated, retaining significant direct associations with Task Performance. These results suggest that, in the SME context of Da Nang, Organizational Recognition is an important mechanism through which a supportive climate is associated with employee performance. The study provides insights for SME management seeking to strengthen recognition practices as part of a more humane and socially sustainable work environment.
