Mixed-methods evidence synthesis

Experiences and coping strategies among cancer patients with cancer-related cognitive impairment treated with chemotherapy: a mixed-methods systematic review

This mixed-methods systematic review synthesized 21 studies of chemotherapy-treated cancer patients with cancer-related cognitive impairment. Memory, concentration, and executive-function problems affected daily life, work, relationships, and emotions. Coping included memory aids, self-regulation, task modification, lifestyle changes, and social support. Perceived benefit is not trial-proven clinical efficacy.

The Socio-Economic Asymmetry Index (SEA): A Framework for Identifying Vulnerability–Exposure Mismatch in Flood-Prone Agricultural Landscapes

This study introduces the Socio-Economic Asymmetry Index (SEA) to identify agricultural areas where socioeconomic vulnerability outweighs physical flood exposure. The framework was tested at 63,010 sampling points in Thailand's Upper Chi River Basin using satellite and land-use data, six composite indices, Random Forest, and SHAP. About one quarter of the study area fell into high or very high asymmetry classes. The result is a spatial modelling tool for prioritising field assessment and support; it does not establish which factors causally produce flood losses.

Lived multifunctionality: Indigenous perceptions of shifting cultivation landscapes in the Naga Hills of Myanmar

Research across 42 villages in Layshi Township, Myanmar's Naga Self-Administered Zone, found that jhum land often classified by the state as vacant or degraded was regarded locally as the most multifunctional land-use type, supporting food, medicines, construction materials, and cultural practice. Forests, home gardens, and paddy terraces complemented jhum as an interdependent landscape mosaic. The study reveals a gap between technocratic land categories and Indigenous knowledge but does not directly measure ecological performance.

Global cross-sectional online-survey evidence

Limited global awareness of invasive alien species and little support for their management

A global online survey analysed 20,420 valid adult responses from 54 countries across all inhabited continents. Awareness and understanding of invasive alien species were low and appeared to vary more with individual sociodemographic characteristics than national social-ecological context. More aware respondents expressed more negative IAS perceptions and greater support for management, yet a large majority did not support most proposed measures. Communication and engagement matter, but survey associations do not show that information alone will produce acceptance.

Fertility counseling and preservation considerations in patients with gynecologic and non-gynecologic BRCA and Lynch-associated malignancies

People with BRCA-associated cancer risk or Lynch syndrome may face malignancy at ages that overlap with family-building. The article frames five connected tasks: cancer prevention, fertility consequences of risk-reducing strategies, fertility effects of cancer treatment, effective oncologic therapy, and fertility preservation without compromising cancer outcomes. Its central message is multidisciplinary, individualized decision-making rather than a universal pathway. This is a clinical synthesis, not a comparative trial establishing the best strategy.

A community-based approach of health governance for COVID-19 prevention: evidence from Thai Muslim communities

A survey of 233 Thai Muslim residents from eight communities in Nakhon Si Thammarat used PLS-SEM to test a community health-governance model for COVID-19 prevention. Primary healthcare services were associated with social support, community nutrition status, and public trust. Community nutrition had the strongest direct association with public compliance, which was in turn associated with trust. The model explained 41.5% of variance in compliance and 49.0% in trust. The findings support culturally responsive system design but, as cross-sectional evidence, do not establish causal direction.

The Impact of Virtual Dental Clinic Color and Image Modifications on Anxiety Reduction in Undergraduate Dental Students

Undergraduate dental students completed a modified State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y-1 before and after entering a virtual dental clinic whose walls were blue, green or yellow, whose imagery showed a mountain, sea or nautilus shell, and whose final condition combined the most preferred colour and image. Total anxiety scores fell significantly with blue or yellow walls and with mountain or sea images. Blue plus mountain reduced anxiety in every participant, yet the authors found no added advantage over either colour or nature imagery alone. This is short-term experimental evidence from VR, not proof that renovating a real clinic reduces anxiety or improves clinical outcomes.

Multi-Stage Phenotyping Identifies Promising Drought-Responsive Upland Rice Germplasm for Tropical Breeding Programs

A Khon Kaen University team screened 336 Thai indigenous upland-rice accessions for seedling leaf rolling in 2022–2023, then advanced 23 to severe water-deficit tests at seedling, active-tillering and reproductive-flowering stages. Performance depended on developmental stage: ULR014 showed broad resilience and recovery, while ULR026 yielded 14.8 g per plant with a 3.27% reduction and ULR130 14.3 g with a reported 0.00% reduction under flowering-stage stress. Clustering suggested parents with complementary strengths, but controlled phenotyping does not make them release-ready cultivars or establish farmer-field yield.

Development and psychometric validation of the Sexual Health Literacy Measurement Tool for Undergraduate Students (SHL-US) in Thailand

A Thai team developed the SHL-US for undergraduates from a 50-item pool reviewed by 13 experts and piloted in 50 students, then used independent samples for exploratory factor analysis (n=300) and confirmatory factor analysis (n=1,235). The final 45 items cover access (12), understanding (12), appraisal (10) and application (11). Overall Cronbach's alpha was .976 and the four-factor model returned CFI .914, TLI .908, RMSEA .055 and SRMR .023. However, very high factor correlations and HTMT values of .868–.959 led the authors to recommend an overall score rather than treating four subscale scores as distinct constructs.

Relational processes in advance care planning among patients with end-stage liver disease: a mixed-methods systematic review

This mixed-methods systematic review searched six databases from inception through 10 September 2026, identified 182 records and included 20 reports representing 18 unique studies; 18 reports entered thematic synthesis. The authors organised findings into three relational domains, nine themes and 25 subthemes spanning clinician–patient, family–patient and socio-cultural/institutional relationships. Conversations were often initiated only with severe deterioration or crisis, while transplant contexts tended to prioritise prognosis and transplant information over life goals and care preferences. This heterogeneous synthesis does not show that relational-nudging strategies improve goal-concordant care.

Do-It-with-AI Framework for Invention: A Kundt’s Tube Case Study

This exploratory bounded case followed three pre-service science teachers building a Kundt's tube through four Do-It-with-AI phases: conceptual exploration, design development, troubleshooting and extension. Scopus AI supported literature exploration, while ChatGPT-4/5 proposed design alternatives, failure hypotheses and applications. Participants modified, built, tested and decided for themselves. After an annular-gap adjustment, discrepancy fell to about 1.2%; the final apparatus measured sound speed at 346.6 m/s, about 0.1% from the theoretical ambient-temperature value. The case demonstrates a feasible AI-supported workflow, but without a comparison group or pre–post measures it cannot establish that AI improved learning or epistemic agency.

Eco-Friendly Ethyl Cellulose Coating for Molded Kraft Paper Food Packaging with Multifunctional Barriers and Promising Recyclability

This materials study developed a PFAS-free molded kraft-paper bowl using an ethyl-cellulose dip coating. Three cycles of 10 wt% EC produced a continuous layer about 45 μm thick, improved water and grease barriers, preserved short-term wet mechanical performance, and kept overall migration below the EU limit under the tested simulants. Fibre recovery required laboratory repulping and solvent-assisted washing. The evidence demonstrates material feasibility, not industrial recyclability or life-cycle sustainability.

Building sustainable workplaces: The role of organizational climate and recognition on employee task performance in Vietnamese SMEsThis research aims to study the relationships between Organizational Climate and Task Performance through Organizational Recognition in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Da Nang, Vietnam. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used to examine the direct and indirect (mediated) relationships among the independent variables, the mediator, and the dependent variable. The population of this study is individual employees in SMEs; 402 respondents were obtained through a convenience and volunteer sampling method. The empirical results demonstrated an excellent model fit. The path analysis revealed that all four dimensions of Organizational Climate had significant positive direct effects on Organizational Recognition (p < 0.001), and that Organizational Recognition was significantly associated with Task Performance. Bootstrap analysis with 5000 resamples and bias-corrected 95 % confidence intervals indicated that all four indirect effects through Organizational Recognition were statistically significant. Standard of Work was fully mediated by Organizational Recognition, whereas Organizational Structure, Responsibility, and Commitment were partially mediated, retaining significant direct associations with Task Performance. These results suggest that, in the SME context of Da Nang, Organizational Recognition is an important mechanism through which a supportive climate is associated with employee performance. The study provides insights for SME management seeking to strengthen recognition practices as part of a more humane and socially sustainable work environment.
